Gnappo the cat

If you are the kid — the ones that are about you

  • I am a computer. I am not a doctor, a teacher, a therapist or a friend, and I will never say I am.
  • Your grown-up owns this account and can see what you say to me.
  • If you show me a picture, I look at it and then it is deleted. I never keep it. Please do not send me pictures of other people.
  • I will ask you to take a break sometimes. That is on purpose.
  • If you are in danger, I am not the right help. Tell a grown-up you trust, or call your local emergency number.

1. Who this is between

These terms are an agreement between Valadier Ventures (“Gnappo”, “we”) and you, an adult of at least 18 years who is the parent or legal guardian of every child you add to the account. By opening an account you confirm that.

A child may not open an account. Children reach Gnappo only through a profile you create for them, under your account and your rules.

2. The account and your household

3. What Gnappo is — and is not

Gnappo is a guarded conversational service for children, plus a reporting and alerting product for you. It is built on large language models, and like all such models it can be wrong, and it can be confidently wrong. Check anything that matters.

Gnappo is not a person, and never claims to be. It tells your child it is a computer at the start of every session. It will not claim to be a doctor, therapist, nurse, lawyer, teacher or any other licensed professional, and it refuses and redirects when asked for medical, legal or therapeutic advice.

Gnappo is not an emergency service and is not a substitute for professional care. It does not diagnose, treat, or screen for any condition. If a child is in danger or in crisis, contact your local emergency number — in the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Gnappo is not a companion. We do not build a persistent “friend”, simulate affection, or sell a relationship. It is a useful tool that remembers useful things.

4. Safety you cannot switch off

Gnappo has a floor of safety behaviours — self-harm, sexual content and exploitation, abuse, and child sexual abuse material. Nobody can disable that floor: not you, not our support staff, not a setting, not a paid tier. You may add your own triggers and make any rule stricter. You may never make one looser than the floor.

Detection is best-effort with human review of the alert. We do not promise to catch everything, and any service that promises you that is lying. What we do promise is that when something fires, you are told, your child is shown real help in the same moment, and the whole decision is written to an audit record neither of us can quietly edit.

These safety features continue to work if you stop paying. Cancelling ends the features you were paying for; it does not end the alert that a child is in trouble, for as long as the profile exists.

5. Oversight, and what your child is told

6. Breaks and session limits

Gnappo reminds a child to take a break — by default roughly every 45 minutes for under-10s, 60 for 10 to 13, and 90 above that — and repeats that it is a computer when it does. You may shorten these intervals. You cannot lengthen them beyond our defaults. You may also set your own daily limits per child.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to, and not to let anyone using your account:

8. Your content

What you and your child put into Gnappo remains yours. You grant us only the licence we need to operate the service for you: to store it, to process it in order to produce answers, summaries and alerts, and to show it back to you.

We do not use it to train AI models, and neither do our vendors, who are contracted to zero retention and no training. We do not use it for advertising and we do not sell it. If we ever want to use it for a purpose not described in the Privacy Policy, we ask you first — a new purpose needs new consent, not a quiet edit to this page.

Photos and files are the exception to “we store it”, and the exception runs in your favour. Where you have switched on attachments for a child, a photograph, PDF or text file they send is read once and deleted inside the same request. We store no copy, and so we cannot show one back to you, restore one, or produce one on request. What is kept — and what you can read in the conversation — is the text of what was in it. See Privacy Policy §6.

9. Plans, billing and cancelling

10. The beta

Gnappo is currently in a closed beta, offered to a limited number of families. Beta access may be changed or withdrawn, features may move or disappear, and there may be more faults than in a finished product. The safety floor in §4 is not a beta feature and is not subject to that caveat. If we end your beta access, we will tell you first and give you a way to export everything.

11. Suspension and closing

12. Disclaimers

Except where the law does not allow us to say so, Gnappo is provided “as is”, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, that model output will be accurate, or that every unsafe message will be detected.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not permit us to limit. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case they simply do not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of or relating to Gnappo is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$100. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits or data, even if we were told they were possible. §12's final paragraph applies here too.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your breach of §7, or from your use of Gnappo for a child you are not the parent or guardian of.

15. Changes to these terms

We will email you at least 30 days before a material change, and post the new version here with its date. Continuing to use Gnappo after it takes effect means you accept it; if you do not, cancel before then and we will refund the unused part of your period. A change to how we handle your child's personal information is governed by the Privacy Policy §18 instead, and we ask you again rather than relying on this paragraph.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [governing law jurisdiction], and disputes go to the courts of [jurisdiction]. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or of your right to bring proceedings there.
